The Town of Glenburn is a small rural residential community with a population of 4,468. Originally incorporated on January 29, 1822 the town was called "Dutton" in honor of Bangor's Samuel Dutton.  Mr. Dutton had a major interest in the original township, and he later became Judge of Probate, a founder of the Bangor Theological Seminary, and an agent for others owning land in the county of Penobscot.  In March 18, 1837, the town's name was changed to its current name of Glenburn which is believed to have come from the Scottish words "glen", a narrow valley, and "burn", a small stream in a narrow valley, which refers to the Kenduskeag Stream that flows through the town.

Glenburn is located just 8.5 miles from the City of Bangor.  Although many small businesses throughout the town provide basic needs to its citizens, there are  hospitals, churches, shopping centers, an international airport, and many other attractions that are just minutes away.

In this growing community there is a consistency of subdivision development and construction of new homes.  Many older homesteads add to the charm and history of the town.

Much of Glenburn borders beautiful Pushaw Lake where several residents enjoy year-round residency. There are also many seasonal properties on the lake.

The Town of Glenburn has one school that provides an excellent education to students from kindergarten through 8th grade.  High school students can attend school of choice.  The school library is also the municipal library and is open to the public.  Our Parks and Recreation Department offers many sports activities and events throughout the year for both students and adults.

With quality education, safe neighborhoods, four seasons recreation, and a great opportunity for businesses to develop and prosper, Glenburn has a lot to offer its residents, visitors, and businesses.
